Washing your face daily might seem like a minute task, but how you wash your face can certainly make a difference in your skin health. Let’s discuss face washing 101!
First, you want to wash your face at least twice daily - when you wake up in the morning and before bed at night. You should also wash your face after sweating heavily. To start, apply the facial cleanser with your hands and gently rub, then rinse with lukewarm water. Avoid scrubbing as this can irritate the skin and make skin conditions like acne and eczema worse. Finally, pat your face dry with a soft cloth.
When selecting a facial cleanser, you should choose one based on your skin type.
For sensitive to normal skin, CeraVe and Cetaphil are great options at a reasonable price! Avoid facial cleansers with fragrance as this will often become an irritant and worsen eczematous skin.
For drier skin types, look for hydrating facial cleansers like CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser and La Roche-Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser.
For oily and/or acne prone skin, select cleansers with salicylic acid (SA) to help unclog pores. CeraVe Acne Face Wash with 2% SA and purifying clay is one to try!
Tip: for everyday make-up wearers, you will want to first apply a make-up remover, rinse your face with lukewarm water, then proceed with applying a facial cleanser. Recommended make-up removers include Bioderma Micellar Cleansing Water, ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, and Philosophy Purity Facial Cleanser.
